As part of its ongoing high-level advocacy to drive support for the upcoming Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine introduction in Nigeria, the Centre for Well-being and Integrated Nutrition Solutions (C-WINS) paid a courtesy visit to the leadership of Jama’atu Izalatul Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS) on April 28, 2025.

The meeting, hosted by the National Chairman, Sheikh Dr. Abdullahi Bala Lau, was an insightful and strategic engagement with one of the most influential faith-based organizations in the country. During the session, Sheikh Bala Lau warmly received the C-WINS delegation and shared valuable insights into the organizational structure and operations of JIBWIS—guidance that will prove critical in tailoring future engagements and collaboration.

Crucially, Sheikh Bala Lau committed to several key actions that will amplify MR vaccine advocacy efforts:

Presentation of the MR vaccine information to the JIBWIS Health Committee to advise on strategic support and next steps.
Mobilization of public sensitization and awareness efforts through the JIBWIS network to educate congregants on the importance of the MR vaccine.
Inclusion of MR vaccine awareness in the upcoming National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of JIBWIS scheduled to take place in Jigawa next week—an important platform to secure broader support from national and state leaders.
C-WINS believes faith-based institutions like JIBWIS play an indispensable role in shaping public opinion and influencing health-seeking behavior. Their involvement in the MR vaccine introduction campaign will help dispel myths, address hesitancy, and build trust among millions of followers across Nigeria.

“We are encouraged by JIBWIS’ openness and commitment to this cause. Our partnership with religious institutions is a key pillar in ensuring that no child is left behind in the fight against Measles and Rubella,” said Dr. Nihinlola Mabogunje , MR Advocacy Team Lead at C-WINS.

The Measles-Rubella vaccine introduction is a critical component of Nigeria’s national immunization strategy, aimed at reducing child mortality and preventing long-term disability from preventable diseases such as Congenital Rubella Syndrome (CRS).

C-WINS remains committed to engaging diverse stakeholders and leveraging trusted community platforms to protect the health and future of every Nigerian child.
