Traditional Leaders Pledge Support for Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign in Kwara State

On 11 August 2025, Kwara State took another big step toward safeguarding the health of its children ahead of the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine rollout in October.

A dedicated delegation from the Kwara State Government, through the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, joined forces with partners including WHO, UNICEF, U-SARAH, IVAC, C-WIN, AFENET, Chigari Foundation, Sultan Foundation, and others for an important mission. Together, they paid advocacy visits to all 21 First Class Traditional Rulers in the state.

The highlight of the day was a meeting at the palace of the Emir of Ilorin, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Traditional Rulers. Discussions centered on the vital role of the MR vaccine in protecting children from measles and rubella, as well as the importance of other primary healthcare services.

The Emir warmly welcomed the delegation and pledged his unwavering support, assuring that he and his fellow traditional leaders will work hand-in-hand with health teams. He committed to mobilizing district heads and communities to embrace and promote the MR vaccine, ensuring that every child in Kwara State gets the protection they deserve.

This show of unity between government, partners, and traditional leaders reflects a shared commitment: healthier children, stronger communities, and a brighter future for Kwara State.
