KSCHMA, ICSA Strengthen Partnership to Advance Child Survival in Kano

In a strategic move to accelerate progress in child survival and strengthen Primary Healthcare (PHC) delivery in Kano State, the Integrated Child Survival Advocacy at the Last Mile (ICSA) paid a high-level advocacy visit to the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA), Dr Rahila Aliyu Muktar.

Dr Rahila Aliyu Muktar commended ICSA for its structured, data-driven and community-focused advocacy approach. She reaffirmed KSCHMA’s commitment to expanding access to affordable and quality healthcare services through innovative health financing mechanisms and inclusive coverage strategies aimed at reaching vulnerable populations.

She further emphasised the Agency’s readiness to deepen collaboration with partners such as ICSA to enhance service delivery, strengthen accountability systems, and improve community engagement across all levels of care. According to her, such partnerships remain critical to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and improving health outcomes for women and children in the state.

The ICSA delegation, led by State Team Lead Dr Dayyabu H Muhammad, engaged KSCHMA leadership on strengthening collaboration to advance equitable access to quality PHC services, particularly at the grassroots level.

Dr Dayyabu highlighted ICSA’s integrated advocacy model, which combines community engagement, accountability mechanisms, and evidence-based policy dialogue. He noted that sustained improvements in maternal, newborn, and child health require deliberate investment in PHC systems, improved budget allocation, timely fund releases, and stronger oversight at both state and Local Government Area (LGA) levels.

He further explained that ICSA interventions are designed to amplify community voices through field-based evidence and stakeholder engagement, ensuring that policy decisions are informed by real service delivery gaps. He stressed that aligning advocacy efforts with government priorities is essential for sustainable impact.

At the end of the engagement, both KSCHMA and ICSA agreed to explore actionable areas of collaboration, particularly in strengthening last-mile advocacy, integrating communication strategies into health interventions, and supporting ongoing PHC system improvements across Kano State.

The visit marks a significant step toward reinforcing multi-sectoral collaboration and shared responsibility in addressing healthcare challenges, contributing to a healthier and more resilient population.
