C-WINS at the 2025 Orphans Carnival: Promoting Child Health Through Engagement and Education
On Monday, May 26, 2025, C-WINS participated in the Orphans Carnival 2025 an event organized by the African Youth Union Commission to commemorate this year’s Children’s Day. Held at Government Secondary School, Wuse Zone 3, the carnival drew in approximately 500 children under the theme:
“Promote inclusivity: Ensure that children, regardless of their background, have equal opportunities and access to education, free healthcare, and basic amenities.”
The day was filled with fun activities, music, games, and prizes aimed at celebrating and empowering vulnerable children.
C-WINS had an opportunity to speak during the event’s program lineup. Dr. Isa Vatsa kicked off the session by engaging the children in a quick interactive survey. Noting their familiarity with measles, he shifted focus to rubella a lesser-known but equally important vaccine-preventable disease.
The presentation continued with Chidinma Douglas-Chukwu, who spoke on the importance of vaccines, immunization, and disease prevention, before handing over to Iveren Sylvia Tersoo-Ivase. Iveren shared a health-themed storybook and led the children in a measles-rubella awareness song, both designed to educate through storytelling and music.
Children who answered questions correctly received a copy of “Zara and the Super Shield“, a storybook focused on measles and rubella. They were also encouraged to share what they had learned with their families and friends, helping to spread awareness about the importance of vaccination in their communities.
